Why Church?

Telling people that they need to be in Church can be a hard thing to hear. Some have painful memories associated with the Church whether it is because they were judged or abused by people attending it. Others have been disillusioned by it, concluding that the Church is just full of hypocrites.

They are not entirely wrong, but they are a little bit!

You see, just like a hospital is for sick people, a Church is a place for sinners. Yes, there are hypocrites at Church, as well as liars, thieves, and prideful people. The difference is, if they are coming to truly be a part of the Church, they are there to have Jesus help them stop those things and are actively, daily, fighting to put those tendencies to death.

Meet Christ’s Bride

What is the Church?

I’ve described what the Church is like, but what is the Church? The Church is not a building with a pointy thing on top or any kind of building really. The Church is a gathering together of believers in Jesus. It is the people who make up the Church, and they can be gathered anywhere. The Church is extremely special to Jesus. In fact, the Church is referred to as Jesus’ Bride (Ephesians 5:25-32).

Why does the Church exist?

The Church exists to worship Jesus. Jesus has been so good to us (link to the Who is Jesus page), we spend all of our lives praising Him. We especially do this on Sunday, a day set aside to remember Jesus rising from the dead and praise Him for it.

The Church also exists to help encourage Christians. There is no such thing as a Solo-Christian. It isn’t a life that can’t be lived alone. This is why we are called to gather together and not push it off (Hebrews 10:24-25). We encourage each other through being together and looking out for one another. When you become a member of the Church, you will be given a church leader who will check up on your needs, pray for you, and teach you more about Jesus. That’s how the Christian life is supposed to be lived.

We know that some have been hurt deeply by people in the Church. A lot of us know what that feels like. We would encourage you, though, just as Jesus does in His Word to find healing in the Church. Not every building with the word “church” on the building is a true representative of what Jesus wants His Bride to be, so we encourage you to find a Church where Jesus is worshiped and taught, sinners repent and are reconciled, and lives are changed and renewed. We would love for you to join us and find out how.
